Success of the 3.3 V6 engine (project code: OWNER) was not a coincidence, but the result of the company's fight for survival. In the mid-1980s, Chrysler, led by the legendary Lee Iacoccy, he needed a “tailor-made” unit.
He supervised the project Willem Weertman – Chrysler's chief engineer and co-creator of the power of HEMI engines. Weertman chose the proven school: cast iron block, aluminum heads and pushrod timing (OHV). Complex straps have been abandoned in favor of an armored, short chain. Effect? The engine, which debuted in 1990, became a benchmark for durability for the next two decades.
